28 Apr April 28, 2020 Color Ad Earns Recognition For Outstanding Environmental Achievement!
Color Ad Packaging works with Cascades Recovery Plus Recycling Program to help ensure our waste materials avoid landfills whenever possible. This year, we are proud to help save 5,431 mature trees, 47,567 bath tubs filled with water, diverted 1,282 cubic yards of waste from the landfill and more!
Landfill Space Saving
The landfill space conversion factors are based on average material densities.
3.9 cubic yards of landfill space are saved for every metric tonne of office paper recycled.
3.9 cubic yards of landfill space are saved for every metric tonne of other fibres recycled.
11.5 cubic yards of landfill space are saved for every metric tonne of containers recycled.
11.5 cubic yards of landfill space are saved for every metric tonne of plastics recycled.
1.0 cubic yards of landfill space are saved for every metric tonne of organics recycled.
2.0 cubic yards of landfill space are saved for every metric tonne of C&D material and skids recycled.
Energy/Oil Savings:
The conversion factors for energy savings are based on the equivalent savings in barrels of oil for a
specific material. The number of barrels of oil saved is calculated based on the percent reduction of
energy required to manufacture materials from recycled product as opposed to remanufacturing using
virgin materials. The number of barrels of oil saved is multiplied by 1700 kWh/barrel.
Office Paper: 4.356 barrels saved
Other Fibres: 2.618 barrels saved
Containers: 20.47 barrels saved
Plastics: 11.22 barrels saved
CO2e Savings:
The conversion factors Cascades Recovery uses when calculating CO2e are listed below. The values
used are based on values published by the Association of Municipal Recycling Coordinators.
Office Paper: 4.38 MT CO2e saved per Metric Tonne Recycled vs. the same Metric Tonne being sent to landfill
Other Fibres: 2.62 MT CO2e saved per Metric Tonne Recycled vs. the same Metric Tonne being sent to landfill
Containers: 4.12 MT CO2e saved per Metric Tonne Recycled vs. the same Metric Tonne being sent to landfill
Plastics: 2.95 MT CO2e saved per Metric Tonne Recycled vs. the same Metric Tonne being sent to landfill
Organics 1.04 MT CO2e saved per Metric Tonne Recycled vs. the same Metric Tonne being sent to
landfill
C&D/Skids: 2.80 MT CO2e saved per Metric Tonne Recycled vs. the same Metric Tonne being sent to Landfill
Water Savings:
The conversion factors for water saved are based on the difference between the water required to
produce new materials from virgin fibre and the amount of water used to produce those same materials
from recycled fibre, hence the term water saved.
29,250 litres of water are saved per metric tonne of office paper recycled.
26,500 litres of water are saved per metric tonne of other fibre recycled.
Tree Savings:
The conversion factor for trees saved is the number published by the Recycling Council of Ontario. The
number of trees saved refers to the number of mature trees that would need to be cut down to obtain the
same amount of fibre as the fibre that is recovered out of 1 metric tonne of recycled material.
17 mature trees are saved for every metric tonne of Fibre that is recycled.
